What is required
The valid passports or original birth certificates (or
certified copies) of the bride and groom.
If either is widowed the marriage certificate and
death certificate of the deceased spouse (or certified copies).
If either is divorced the original Decree Absolute (or
certified copy of the Final Judgment).
A letter from the marriage officer who is performing
the ceremony, including the details of the church to which they belong.
If it is a Roman Catholic ceremony, the relevant
documents must be sent by your own Bishop to the Bishop of Bridgetown.
Application for a marriage licence must be made by the
bride and groom in person at the office of the Ministry of Home Affairs,
5th Floor, General Post Office Building, Cheapside, Bridgetown, St.
Michael.
If neither bride or groom is a citizen or resident of
Barbados, the license fee is $150Bds cash and a $25bds stamp, return
airline tickets must also be presented.
Where necessary, all documents not in English must be
accompanied by a certified translation.
Certification of any of the above mentioned documents
must be carried out by a Notary Public NOT a Justice of the Peace
